Born in Cuellar (Castile and Leon), in Spain and died in Mexico City on June 30, 1520, during the "Noche Triste", he was cousin of Diego Velásquez de Cuellar and brother in law of the conquistador Panfilo de Narváez.
He would have been established at the beginning of the 16th century to Hispaniola. During his stay he would have killed a man in this island and have fled to Cuba where his cousin was governor, to flee from justice. He was captain of one of the boats of Cortes in his expedition to Mexico in 1519
He was one of the 5 captains who did prisoner Moctezuma. He objected to Panfilo de Narváez and Diego Velásquez the young, when they arrived in Mexico to stop Cortes, on the order of the governor of Cuba.
He had a daughter of an Indian woman, the daughter of the Cacique Maesecasi.
He died at the retreat of the Spaniards, driven out by the revolt of the Mexicans, during what was called the Noche Triste. He was appreciated by his companions in arms and in particular by Pedro de Alvarado.
